2LDK (2003)

Summary: Nozomi and Lana share an apartment in Tokyo. They have both auditioned for the same role in a movie, and know that the shortlist has been cut down to just the two of them. As they wait the night before finding out who will get the role, their personality clashes erupt into an all-out battle.

Review: Oh man. Miike does it again. I laughed, I cried, I wanted to kill my neighbour. The fight to the death scene between the two women in the end was so beautifully exectuted that it was like watching it right in front of you, in real life. I was surprised that this got a US DVD release when the MPAA is still bitching about Battle Royale - if anything, this is just as violent. If you're looking for something with both wit and senseless blood, 2LDK is the movie for you.

Final Rating: B-

Miike didn't direct 2LDK, but Yukihiko Tsutsumi did as part of Dual Project which Ryuhei Kitamura (Versus) also did a feature for, called Aragami.

Also, the kerfuffle over TEH OH NOES BATTLE ROYALE SO BANNED IN TEH US is urban legend. Toei wants shitloards of money for the license and the companies that do want it can't afford it and the companies that can afford it won't touch it. There's also a rumor that Toei refuses to license it to North American companies but that's bullshit as it's been licensed in England.

This commences my being a know it all.
